Payment Systems

I realise this has been done many times in the past, but I need to ask anyway, as I am not that up to date on this area of the market.

98% of all our transactions are BACS or Cheque. We do roughly 3% on Card. We don't have the need for a proper merchant account because I consider it low volume and we are not an ecommerce site. The average card transactions around £150. We are using PayPal at the moment. I like the PayPal system, but I find they take a big chunk. I don't want to pay a monthly fee, and I was wondering if a company existed that was similar Google Checkout & PayPal that charged a lower fee on transactions without a monthly fee?

Suggestions please.

Hi Scootek,

Our service requires you to have an Internet Merchant Account through Barclays, HSBC or Streamline (Natwest/RBS) and I noticed you mentioned above that you didn't want to go down the merchant account route.

However, If you want to discuss further drop me a PM with your number and I will give you a call. Using our service with a merchant account will often work out cheaper than using the banks own service, or even other gateways - some of which are getting a bit of a slating at the moment from disgruntled customers it seems - and as we have direct contacts with the banks we can usually get your application processed quicker and cheaper than if you go directly.

It all depends on how much the merchant account will cost.

We try and avoid card full stop, as most clients are retained, so it is minimal, neverthelss, it all adds up.

Feel free to PM rough costs. I am interested and I have had merchant accounts before.
