Default Free Delivery

IT has its merits and desmerits of it all, firstly it attracts visitors to purchase items online but the downside of it is that the business will be at a loss. On my previous website I had Free delivery as an option as a result of that a visitor purchased Aloe Vera Gel 1 litre £18.00 then and click on Free delivery method but the downside of it is that when I went to the post office to post the item to the customer the postal charge was £7.00 having weigh the item.

Finally, it can be positive or negative to a business.

I know I am the only one on here who disagrees with free delivery being the be all and end all to a user making a purchase.

But I want to point out, that in fact, free delivery is a very rare thing as 9 times out of 10 it's simply built into the price of the item

ie :

my client - product £178 + £10 delivery

Other peoples website product £188.00 free delivery

Although they are the same price my client argues to the eye his appears cheaper.
Free delivery everytime. Your client must think people are stupid.

Its the same when shops charge for example £1.99 rather than two pounds.
Its so patronising to people.

I m late into this post, but I understand the idea of the question

Its not a case of Free Delivery as the example given

£178 + £10 Delivery

or

£188 Free Delivery

Its not free is just added and with the ease of the internet, most clients will be able to search prices and compare and judge which is the best price in the end. Is this a downfall with the option to compare, I dont think so, I believe this brings back good customer values. If a client is looking to pay a certain price and see's a cheap deal but no feedback or bad reviews would they still buy.. NO !! but if the seller is upto date on feedback and great reviews, the customer will not think twice if its FREE delivery or Add on.

Hopefully I back this suggestion with the following

Its christmas and you need a turkey, so you jump in your car and drive to tesco or similar and park (free parking) and go buy.

My first point, is FREE parking drawing me to Tesco , NO !! the chance of getting a turkey in stock is, plus I had to drive and that cost fuel.

Now what happen if they dont have a Turkey but you speak to a person and he tells you that a butcher has got some left and he is a great guy who will bend over backwards for you BUT you pay a higher price.

Do you travel to BUY !! of course you will, because CUSTOMER service counts

I hope my long winding story makes sense in the end..

i think most of buyers are like free shipping services. so if you provide free shipping then you must some grow in business. and you will also marketing this offer by banners .

I was ordering some new trainers the other day (was sent looking for Kip Jnr's and found some for me!) and they wanted £2.99 delivery, so I thought sod it, will get some next time I am in town! But if they were a fiver more with free delivery, I would of probably bought them!

I hate it when I get to a checkout and there are extra charges, however small.

Totally agree, Kip. They'd lose the sale with me.

Oddly, I've never had to think about this kind of thing before, though with the launch of my new business its things like this that are really coming into play!

With the clothing on Failing Rose (taking into account the current sale prices), it's £7.99 for a tee plus p&p, would it just look better if it was the total price and free shipping?

Hello again, Dave.

Psychologically, I do believe it would look better to offer free shipping, as long as you're covering your costs.
