So the battle over online Encyclodedias ends.
The professional content offering by Microsoft, Encarta is to end on the 31 Oct 2009. So does this mean it couldn't compete in the brave new "do it yourself" wiki world of wikipedia? Does this tell us anything about the direction the web is going? Search technologies become more refined, Twitter brings in to the realms of realtime search, and users want access to content they can interact with. So if an old warhorse like Encarta can't survive the brave new world, maybe businesses should have another glance over their own sites. Do we all need to rethink how our online visitors and potential customers view our online shop windows? With Web 3.0 buzzwords rattling around, it looks like we could be in for an interesting few years...
