Default Bing to be default search engine on the iPhone?

Thought this would make ya chuckle, looks like the gloves are off

Amid an accelerating rivalry with Google, Apple is discussing ways to make Bing the default search engine on the iPhone.

The discussions reflect the accelerating rivalry between Apple and Google, now the main provider of Web search on the iPhone. While the two companies have worked as partners in the past and Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt had a seat on Apple's board, Apple and Google have more recently begun competing in several markets, including mobile phones. Google sells a smartphone, the Nexus One, that competes directly with the iPhone and it has spearheaded development of a wireless handset operating system that rivals the iPhone OS.

"Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy," says one of the people, who's familiar with Apple's thinking. "Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle." Apple is also working on ways to manage ad placement on its mobile devices, a move that would encroach on Google's ad-serving business

Here is a technaphobe reply for you !

I want a mobile phone to be a mobile phone, do I need the internet access to hand all the time? Honestly no I don’t, surely it can wait until I get home?

All I want to be able to do with my phone is make and receive calls and send the odd text.

Don’t see what the fuss is about

Admit I can see that being an attraction, I was commenting more though on is it necessary for a mobile phone to have all these extra functions?

Is someone more likely to use the internet more on a 2 or 3 inch screen or on a full size monitor?

Technophobe still cant see the attraction sorry

This is where you can show your age! Much as I agree, I'm not a fan of trying to surf on a miniscreen, there is a huge mass market out there that is!

One of the challenges for online businesses, especially information based services like My Local Services is too harness new technology and incorporate new search habits.

The internet is now maturing, and although us oldies may still have a sense of frontier spirit, youngsters now regard the internet as routine and don't find it particuarly exciting! Its just a tool to be used.

Bit like us and colour TV, we took it as normal as we grew up with it, while our parents marvelled at it

I dip my toe into the bing water every now and then and its warm as far as I am concerned.

There are some features on there that I think are pretty good.
for instance you do a search on avatar and it comes up with the next showing at your nearest cinema, pics, videos, facts about the film and also general search information which is also splt in categories.

T think that is a pretty nice touch.

My only concern is. that it is an MS product and Steve Balmer is a steaming hot one.
