I was looking for a small footprint on a customers existing windows tin.

I always go for a linux based product normally such as safesquid but this customer is in the other side of London and has no spare tin to offer up for a proxy so I was trying to find a suitable compromise.

even though the thought of a proxy on a windows server makes me twitch sligthly.

They only have 25 seats which also makes ISA cost prohibitive.

thanks for the info.

Doesnt really matter how many seats there are as ISA Server 2006 is licensed under the processor licensing model. Under this model, a license is required for each physical or virtual processor that is accessed by an operating system environment running ISA Server software. This license does not require any device or user CALs.

You can also install this on a spare or old desktop PC and it works fine but the OS has to be windows server 2003.

We're running ISA 2006, nice and reliable, dunno about putting it on an older PC, we've got it running on an HP ML110 with 2GB RAM, so a low cost box and flies along.

Used to use Wingate years ago, which I think had a free version and was pretty stable and ran on top of Win2000.
