Default Yellow pages

It's coming up to that time of year again when we need to update our Yell.com and Yellow Pages listings. We paid out a fair amount last year and while I think it is important to be in the Yellow Pages - at least listed - I am wondering whether I should reconsider my Yell.com listing.

However, all of my local competitors have listings there, and I wonder whether the links from the site are actually helping their rankings? I don't want to drop down when we have a strong SEO strategy in place at the moment.

Any insight would be good?

Not sure ethically if I should answer this But can't resist...

Some people get a fantastic return from Yell.com or the hard cover book, and when it comes to marketing, this should be most peoples primary concern.

Yell can be pricey, so does it return more value than what you pay out? This can be from enquires, leads, sales, to a quality inbound link, marketing presence etc.

If it does, then re-subscribe. To be honest that goes for just about any business directory, and in fact just about any form of marketing or promotion.

If you are shelling out because you think the link is more beneficial, then personally I'd think you would be better spending the same money on either adwords, or employ an SEO consultant to get you some decent quality inbound links.

Ahem, obviously what you really need is a directory that gives you a Lifetime Listing, so you don't have to keep subscribing each year. Now if only I knew one...

Thanks for the insight.

If the page Title and URL of your Solicitors in Norwich listings had Norwich in rather than Norfolk then I would be straight there - honest

Anybody taking any bets on whether there'll be a tweak to the listings?

Our search results pages are set up like that.
/Norfolk/Solicitors/norwich/
Page Title: Solicitors in Norwich | Norfolk

Although I am currently playing with actual listing page titles, as I'm trying to get the most out of the first 66 characters, and must admit, didn't realise we didn't have the town name at the local listing level! So have amended that

I wouldn't renew just for the link, and the sitebuilder feature is rubbish so steer clear of that.

We pulled out of Yellow Pages and Yell.com a few years ago. When we receive enquiries via telephone, we always ask where the caller found us. Nearly everyone answers "google". If your natural google ranking is good, I would advise not spending extortionate amounts with Yell.

The Yellow pages hard copy use to be worth going into many years ago. Always handy if you needed to block a door open or use as a step to reach something. It was always impressive watching tough guys rip them in half, something I could never do. But nowadays it's so thin I can finally manage it
As for Yell.com if I'm looking for something on the internet I never type in Yell in the search bar. I think sites like free index and aboutmyarea offer much more value and are free.
